Yard Waste Disposal Options for Independent Disposal

Delaware north of the C&D canal

Yard Waste includes grass, leaves, garden material, shrubs, brush, tree limbs up to 4 inches in diameter and 5 feet long and Christmas trees. The weight of an individual bag, bundle or container cannot exceed 30 pounds. Yard waste cannot be mixed with normal household trash after January 24, 2008.

www.independentdisposal.com. Independent Disposal Services offers every other week pickup for up to 10 thirty gallon-size bags/bundles for a fee. Please call for pricing. Please have your yard waste out the night before your pickup.

2. TAKE YOUR YARD WASTE TO A COMPOSTING/MULCHING FACILITY.

  1. DNREC Polly Drummond Hill Road Yard Waste Site just north of Route 2. No fee.
  2. DNREC Mid-County Yard Waste Site, Route 13 & Route 72. No fee.
  3. DSWA Composting/Mulching, 12th St & Hay Rd, Wilmington, (800) 404-7080 for $61.50/ton.


3. COMPOST OR MULCH YOUR YARD WASTE by using a mulching mower, brush chippers, and/or composting. The Delaware Department of Natural Resources & Environmental Control has many tips; www.dnrec.delaware.gov/yardwaste.

4. CONTACT A LAWN OR LANDSCAPE MAINTENANCE SERVICE COMPANY.

5. JOIN THE DSWA YARD WASTE RECYCLING PROGRAM,
www.dswa.com
or (800) 404-7080. They can take bags of yard waste for $1.00 per bag.

CHRISTMAS TREES with no decorations can be taken to a one of the Composting/Mulching Facilities listed above or one of the following Delaware State Parks for free disposal as part of DNREC's Christmas Tree Recycling Program; Killens Pond, Cape Henlopen and Trap Pond. Check www.dnrec.delaware.gov for dates and times.

Yard Waste makes up nearly a quarter of the residential waste in Delaware. By diverting this estimated 45,000 tons a year from Cherry Island landfill we can delay the need to find a new landfill site in New Castle County.

3.JOIN THE DSWA YARD WASTE RECYCLING PROGRAM, www.dswa.com or (800) 404-7080. They can take bags of yard waste for $1.00 per bag. IDS offers a $2.00 discount per month.

1. COMPOST OR MULCH YOUR YARD WASTE by using a mulching mower, brush chippers, and/or composting. The Delaware Department of Natural Resources & Environmental Control has many tips; www.dnrec.delaware.gov/yardwaste.

2. TAKE YOUR YARD WASTE TO A COMPOSTING/MULCHING FACILITY. The Cecil County Central Landfill, 758 East Old Philadelphia Road, Elkton will accept yard waste separately from other waste from residents for FREE disposal. Yard waste must be removed from your container and the container taken back for reuse.
